SPAC Call to Action: Ohio Fostering Connections Act

For the past three years, the Junior Leagues of Ohio State Public Affairs Committee have been working on the passage and support of HB 50, the Ohio Fostering Connections Act.  Governor Kasich signed the Ohio Fostering Connections Act into law on May 25, 2016, but the law did not have an appropriation attached and is therefore dependent upon receiving an allocation from the state budget. Governor Kasich allocated $11 million in his proposed budget (almost $3 million more than was requested!), but Rep. Pelanda, one of the bill’s co-sponsors, has warned SPAC members that this allocation is at risk of being cut during budget negotiations.

Therefore, she is asking for SPAC-member Leagues to express their support of keeping the appropriation for HB 50 (Ohio Fostering Connections Act) in the budget bill. Consistent with the last three years of SPAC efforts, we are asking members of the Junior League of Cincinnati to:

  • Write a handwritten thank you note to Governor Kasich thanking him for signing HB 50 into law and making an $11 million appropriation in his budget.
  • Write a thank you note to your state Representative thanking him/her for voting for HB 50 (only two Representatives voted Nay) and asking him/her to preserve the $11 million allocation. Click here to find your legislator.
  • Write a thank you note to your state Senator thanking him/her for voting for HB 50 (all voted in favor!) and asking him/her to preserve the $11 million allocation.
