AJLI 2020 Conference Excursions

Join the Junior League of Cincinnati (JLC) in touring the “Queen City.” The JLC has selected a myriad of fun and exciting opportunities to explore our historic city. Peruse the available options below and then scroll to the bottom of the page to reserve your spot(s) and purchase your ticket(s).

Please note that transportation to and from attractions will be “user pay” via services including Uber, Lyft, taxi, OGGO, GEST or streetcar as noted. 

Friday Evening:

  • Playhouse in the Park: The TWO time Tony Award winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park presents “Becoming Dr. Ruth” at 8pm.  A humorous, affectionate and illuminating one-woman show that’s full of grit and triumph about the life of America’s most famous sex-therapist.
    • Price: $75 plus Uber (5-10 min.), 15 tickets available
    • Departure from Duke Energy Convention Center Lobby at 7:00 pm
    • Optional: On-site pre-performance casual dining & cocktail bar (additional charge) available from 6:30 pm until show time
  • AJLI Dine-Arounds: Experience the charm of this river city! Enjoy our beautiful skyline, boats and lights at night from private homes along the Ohio River. Cincinnati League members will open their homes to welcome you and provide a delightful, catered dinner and wine. Special dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
    • Price: $60 catered dinner & beverages/ all locations are within 10 min. ride by Uber, Lyft, or taxis

  • Restaurant Dining: Cincinnati’s status as an up-and-coming Midwest metropolis means travelers enjoy amazing new chefs and restaurants. We’ve chosen seven of our favorite locations for delegates to enjoy a “taste of Cincinnati.” (12 reservations at each beginning at 8 pm). All forms of transportation listed are within 5-10 min. of each destination.

  • Optional for ALL Friday evening excursions: JLC “hospitality hostesses” can suggest one of our rooftop bars in the downtown core to enjoy “Friday Night Fireworks” presented by the Cincinnati Reds immediately following the baseball game.

Saturday Afternoon:

  • ArtWorks Mural Tour, Downtown Cincinnati: The city of Cincinnati is an outdoor art gallery with an impressive collection of more than 150 monumental murals. Each piece was created through a job-training program where art is the vehicle that trains and employs local youth, working with professional talent, to create art and impact the community. From John Glenn to designs by Charlie Harper to John Ruthven, the city is alive. The 2 mile walk, beginning at Central Parkway, will pass 16 murals and end in the heart of the city at Fountain Square.
    • Price: $25 (Tour originates .6 mile/14 minutes walking distance from the hotels or use other transportation to ArtWorks location.)
    • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:30 pm and tour will last until 4:00 pm

  • Cincinnati Art Museum:Special Exhibit: “Gorham Silver: Designing Brilliance, 1850 – 1970.” This dazzling presentation of exceptional silver and mixed-metal wares casts new light on the legacy of Gorham. Adeptly coupling art and beauty, Gorham rose from a small firm to become the largest silver company in the world. After the tour, enjoy the others wonders of the Cincinnati Art Museum on your own. (The Junior League of Cincinnati founded the Docent Program at the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1960.).
    • Price: $20 plus UBER (5-10 min.)
    • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:30 pm and tour will last until 4:00 pm
    • Optional lunch (user pay) in the Museum’s Café from 12pm
    • Up to 12 participants
  • Cincinnati Zoo: May is “Zoo Babies” Month at the nation’s #1 Zoo as voted by USA TODAY readers. 6 foot tall stork statues displayed throughout the Zoo will lead to all the cutest little “baby” faces PLUS we’re including a visit to our 3 year old, “world famous” hippo, Fiona!! A JLC member/past president and zoo volunteer photographer “extraordinaire” will lead the group.

    • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:30 pm and tour will last until 4:00 pm
    • Up to 20 participants
  • Private Group Food Tours: 
    • Cincinnati Streetcar Food Tour: Step-on, step-off the Cincinnati Streetcar to learn about our city and sample great tastes along the way at 4 locations including a glass of wine or local beer. Travel from historic Findlay Market in our Over-the-Rhine neighborhood through the Central Business District to The Banks along the Ohio River.
      • Price: $70 (Short walk to the streetcar from the hotel)
      • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:00 pm and tour will last until 4:15 pm
      • Up to 10 participants (Depending on demand, may add 2 additional tour groups of 10)
    • Mainstrasse Food Tour: Join us as we stroll through a charming German village from the early 1800’s located just across the Ohio River in Covington, Ky. Visit 5 locally owned restaurants – even meet a few owners and chefs. From specialty pizza to pretzels and beer, charcuterie, coffee and homemade desserts plus a few authentic dishes and wine or beer, your taste buds will be delighted. The walking tour is 1.25 miles long.
      • Price: $70 plus UBER (5-10 min.)
      • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:00 pm and tour will last until 4:15 pm
      • Up to 12 participants
    • Signature Over-the-Rhine Tour: Sample OTR during a casually guided tour through one of the largest intact urban historic districts in the U.S. Learn the history of the neighborhood and taste samples at 4 local establishments from casual to upscale restaurants. The tour includes Findlay Market, Washington Park, Music Hall, historic churches and a number of mixed-use buildings that blend the old and the new along the way. The walking tour is 1.5 miles long.
      • Price: $70 plus streetcar or Uber (5 min.)
      • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:00 pm and tour will last until 4:15 pm
      • Up to 10 participants
  • National Underground Railroad Freedom Center: Discover the stories of freedom’s heroes, from the era of the underground railroad to contemporary times, challenging and inspiring us all. A JLC Sustainer and Docent of the Center will conduct the tour.
    • Price: $15 (Short walk from hotels.)  1:15 – 3:30 pm
    • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:15 pm
    • Up to 30 participants (Depending on demand, a second tour group may be added)
  • Smale Riverfront Park: Walking tour of Cincinnati’s revitalized riverfront and award-winning Smale Park is led by members of our local League who serve as Cincinnati Parks’ Docents. Take a whirl on the charming hand-carved animals housed in our glassed-in carousel. Includes: a craft beer & hot Bavarian pretzel at the Park’s Moerlein Lager House.
    • Price: $20 (Short walk from hotels.) 1:30 – 4:00 pm
    • Departure from Hyatt Hotel Lobby at 1:30 pm
